If you’re planning to run a half marathon in 2027, you need to know something uncomfortable: the best races don’t just sell out. They vanish. In minutes, in hours — while people are still reading the course description, the bibs are gone.
I track sellout times across the half marathon calendar because that data matters for anyone who pairs races with conference travel. The CPD traveller who books their conference first and the race second has already lost — by the time leave is approved, registration closed four months ago.
Here are the five fastest, verified against race organisers and news reports.
1. Hackney Half — 14 Minutes
The finisher window for the 2026 Hackney Half closed in 14 minutes. Not figuratively. Not “felt like.” Fourteen minutes from open to gone.
If you didn’t run Hackney in 2025, you didn’t get the finisher window. The general release opened the next day and sold the remaining bibs in under 48 hours — a record for an event that already held the record. The 2025 sellout took two weeks. The 2026 sellout took two days. At this rate, 2027 will clear before lunch.
The numbers: 25,000 spots across Hackney’s east London course. Three consecutive years of accelerating sellouts. No SuperHalfs membership, no lottery — just raw demand from one of the youngest, most diverse half marathon fields in the UK. 2. Dublin City Half — 2 Hours (Inaugural)

The first ever Dublin City Half Marathon opened registration on 8 January 2025. Two hours later, every one of the 12,500 bibs was gone.
Pause on that. An inaugural race — no reputation, no finisher loyalty, no word-of-mouth — sold out faster than races that have been running for decades. The Irish Times reported the queue hit the site immediately and didn’t stop until the sold-out banner went up.
The 2026 edition moved to a ballot system. That should tell you something: when an inaugural race sells out in two hours, the organiser knows they could fill the course three times over. Don’t expect 2027 to be any slower.

3. Copenhagen Half (SuperHalfs) — 2.5 Hours

The 2025 Copenhagen Half sold out in 2.5 hours — and the registration site buckled under the traffic. This is the fastest half in the SuperHalfs series, and the math is simple: Copenhagen has the world-record-grade course, the September weather, and now a championship pedigree after hosting the 2026 World Athletics Road Running Championships.
The 2026 WRRC event used a lottery. The 2027 CPH Half returns to first-come-first-served in late 2026. Expect the 2.5-hour window to shrink.

4. Gold Coast Half (China Airlines ASICS) — 2.5 Hours

Australia’s fastest-selling half marathon somehow keeps getting faster. The 2025 edition sold out in four hours. The 2026 edition sold out in 2.5 hours, part of a record 33,000+ total registrations across all distances in 24 hours. Sixty countries represented.
No other race in this dataset is compacting its sellout window that aggressively year-over-year. The full marathon took eight hours. The half did it in 2.5.
The 2027 registration opens 2 December 2026 at 9:00 AM AEST. If your conference in Brisbane or Sydney is in late 2027, this is your race — but only if you’re online at 9:00 AM sharp, credit card out.

5. Prague Half (Generali SuperHalfs) — 4 Hours
Prague sold out in four hours for 2026, and RunCzech reported roughly 100,000 people trying for a field of around 12,000. That’s roughly 8 people fighting for every bib.
The SuperHalfs series drives this — runners chasing all six medals need Prague, and the Czech organisers have built one of the most polished race weekend experiences in Europe. The Old Town start, the Vltava River course, the April timing — it all adds up to a race that now sells out on opening day as a matter of routine.

The pattern
These aren’t outliers. Every year a few more races transition from “buy when you’re ready” to “buy the moment it opens or you’re watching from the pub.” Cardiff and Valencia moved to ballots for 2026 after same-day sellouts in 2025. Berlin was already there. Copenhagen went lottery for the championship year.
The fix for CPD travellers is uncomfortable but simple: if a race is on your list, register before you sort the conference. Race entry fees are cheap enough to eat if dates shift. Finding a medical conference near a race is much easier than finding bibs for a sold-out race near your conference.
