The Suffolk Coastal Marathon is an Endurancelife Coastal Trail Series event that starts and finishes in the village of Dunwich on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. The off-road loop threads through pine forest, along the open beach, over dyke tops, across heathland, around the back of RSPB Minsmere nature reserve and through quiet villages and nature reserves. It is an over-distance trail marathon of roughly 26.7 miles with about 288m of total ascent.

This October, Dunwich's ancient heath and shingle beach are at their most atmospheric, with the autumn light catching the gorse and the sea air crisp on the coast. After the race, reward yourself with a classic fish and chips in nearby Southwold or a pint of local ale at a village pub, and take a moment to explore the ruins of the old medieval town that's slowly slipping into the sea.

The course is entirely off-road across very mixed ground - loose beach shingle, narrow heathland paths through gorse and heather, dyke tops, forest track and field edges. It mixes coast, woodland and heath rather than following one type of terrain.
