3 Country Sparkasse Marathon
The Sparkasse 3-Länder-Marathon is a unique running event that takes place annually in the Lake Constance region, leading through three countries: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The course starts at Lake Constance and offers a scenic backdrop of water, mountains, and historic towns, with a highlight being the border crossing without barriers. The event offers various distances, from the full marathon to relay races and shorter courses.
Autumn in the three-country corner brings crisp air and calm lakeside paths, perfect for a flat marathon that weaves through Lindau's island old town and past Bregenz's floating stage. Afterward, warm up with a bowl of Linzer Torte or a mug of Glühwein from a local café, and take a slow walk along the promenade to watch the leaves turn over Lake Constance.
Event Details
The course is very flat, with a total elevation difference of only 17.0 meters, from 398 meters to 415 meters above sea level.
Every participant who reaches the finish line by 4:30 PM receives a finisher medal.
The course runs mostly on asphalt roads and paths, leading through the island city of Lindau, along the shores of Lake Constance, past the world's largest floating stage in Bregenz, through marinas, and crossing the EU border at St. Margrethen without passport control. After a short stay in Switzerland, it follows the Rhine for 3 kilometers back to the lake and finishes in the Casinostadion.
