Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon
The Reykjavik Marathon is a single loop through central Reykjavik and the coast, with about 166m of total elevation gain and no major climbs. It is an AIMS-certified Boston qualifier with a 6.5-hour time limit, held during Iceland's Culture Night.
Late August in Reykjavik offers long, luminous days perfect for exploring the city's volcanic coastline and geothermal pools after your run. Savor the local seafood, like fresh langoustine or a traditional lamb soup, at a harbor-side restaurant, and keep an eye out for the first hints of Northern Lights on clear nights. The mild, crisp air and fewer crowds make this an ideal time to experience Iceland's raw, dramatic scenery.
