Seoul Marathon
The Seoul Marathon is Asia's oldest marathon, first run in 1931, and holds the World Athletics Platinum Label. It is a point-to-point, mostly flat course with 93m elevation gain, starting at Gwanghwamun Plaza and finishing inside Jamsil Olympic Stadium. The race has a 5-hour time limit and requires a qualifying certificate for entry.
Come for the marathon, stay for the city waking up in early spring. The course itself is a tour of Seoul's contrasts — from the royal Gwanghwamun Plaza and the old city gates to the modern curves of DDP and the riverside parks — and the finish inside the Olympic Stadium is a proper grandstand moment. While you're here, warm up with a bowl of seolleongtang (milky beef bone soup) or tteokbokki from a street cart, and take a walk along Cheonggyecheon stream, which is especially pleasant in the mild March air.
