The Steyning Stinger is a brutal off-road South Downs trail marathon with four chalk 'stings', around 900m of climb past Chanctonbury and Cissbury Ring forts. It starts and finishes at Steyning Grammar School, covering roughly 42.5km on multi-terrain including chalk tracks, grassland, woodland trail, sections of the South Downs Way, and a little country road.

Why attend here

Come for the climb, stay for the chalk. This March, the South Downs are waking up green and quiet, with the iron-age hill forts of Chanctonbury and Cissbury Ring standing proud above the misty weald. After your four ascents, warm up in Steyning's old pubs with a pint of local ale and a ploughman's lunch, and if you're lucky, catch the first lambs in the fields.
