The 47th Tamba-Sasayama ABC Marathon is an out-and-back road marathon starting and finishing by the Sasayama Castle ruins in Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo, Japan. The course runs through satoyama farmland and the preserved Edo-era castle town, with a wild-boar soup aid station and a Tamba-yaki pottery finisher medal. The race has a 6.5-hour time limit and is Boston Qualifying.
Running this route means weaving through Tamba-Sasayama's preserved Edo-era castle town and its samurai streets, with the old castle ruins as your start and finish. Early March here is crisp and quiet, ideal for an out-and-back through the satoyama farmland before the crowds of spring arrive. Afterward, warm up with local Tamba-yaki pottery and a bowl of the region's famed chestnut rice, or explore the town's sake breweries.
