The course runs almost entirely inside Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, starting and finishing at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. It opens with an early uphill climb before descending onto Huffman Flying Field, then settles into long, flat, fast stretches along the flight line where C-17 transports operate. Around mile 15 runners briefly leave the base for downtown Fairborn before returning through the base's historic brick housing, past a golf course and across Wright State University grounds, with gentle rolling hills in the final 5 miles before finishing among the static-display aircraft in the museum's Air Park.
