The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is one of the seven Abbott World Marathon Majors and one of the fastest courses on Earth. It is a loop course starting and finishing in Grant Park, traveling through 29 Chicago neighborhoods over a mostly flat 26.2 miles. The course is the flattest-feeling Major with essentially zero net elevation change, and it has hosted multiple world records, including the women's world record set in 2024.

Course

The course runs through downtown and neighborhoods, not along the lakefront. It passes through the Loop, River North, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lakeview/Boystown, Wells, Greektown, West Loop, Little Italy, UIC Medical District, Pilsen, Chinatown, Armour Square, Bronzeville, and up Michigan Avenue to the finish. The route is lined with city canyons and side streets, with notable spectator zones including Pilsen's mariachi bands around mile 19, Boystown party near miles 7-9, and Chinatown's lion and dragon dancers around mile 21. The only notable hill is 'Mount Roosevelt' near mile 26.
